Directional valves are used to operate air cylinders on mobile equipment as well as in industrial applications. Rexroth or Bosch-Rexroth directional pneumatic control valves are the standard to operate power tongs.

Common directional valves for these applications are the 2HA-2 and 2HA-1 A-pilotair to operate cylinders on the power tongs. The original Wabco valves have been around for over 50 years, and have gone through several ownership and name changes. The valves manufactured by Rexroth Pneumatics, and now by Bosch-Rexroth Pneumatics are exactly the same as the earlier Wabco valves, and are still made in Lexington, Kentucky as they have been since they were designed for the first rotary drilling rigs dating back to the 1940's. There have been several part number changes over the years as different owners (WABCO,Rexroth, and Bosch-Rexroth)have implemented new computer systems and software. For example one of the most common valves, a 2HA-2 A-Pilotair valve, was known as a P59335, then as a P59335-0000, and now the part number is R431005003. These latest Bosch-Rexroth part numbers were implemented with the SAP software conversion in 2008.
